The Door empowers young people to reach their full potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment. At The Door, youth can access health care and education, mental health counseling and crisis assistance, legal assistance, college preparation services, career development, housing supports, arts, sports and recreational activities, and nutritious meals – all for free and under one roof.

The Door’s Career and Education Services Department in Soho and the South Bronx support young people in completing secondary education and successfully transitioning into post-secondary education and employment. As the Career Advancement Coach, you will encourage and empower young people to earn their HSE and/or obtain internships and jobs placements. You will be the primary point person for the young person during the duration of their participation at The Door and will collaborate with colleagues to ensure the young persons’ success. From point of enrollment, you will provide intensive support, mentoring, coaching, and case management services to young people during their time at The Door and celebrate their successes.

What You Will Do:

  • Maintain all case management records as related to funders’ goals and contractual obligations
  • Provide case management services including information, referrals, assistance in accessing support services
  • Facilitate career readiness, professional development, and life skills workshops for participants
  • Work with and provide feedback to team members to ensure participants’ goals are being met
  • Participate in recruitment, orientation and intake efforts for Door career and education programming
  • Conduct prospecting, screening, and enrollment of young people for performance-based contracts
  • Conduct site visits to provide support, verify employment/attendance, and obtain documentation
  • Develop an exit service plan for participants who have successfully completed career and education services
  • Develop and facilitate community meetings and provide support during special events
  • You have a strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion


What We Are Looking For:

  • You have 4+ years of experience in youth development or workforce development,
  • Trained in retail sector employment and training strongly preferred
  • Strong track record of developing employer partnerships for internships, employment opportunities
  • You have a knack for engaging youth and the ability to apply positive youth development practices
  • You thrive in a busy environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, education, counseling, public policy, or related field
