Overview: Broome Street Academy is partnered with The Door, a nationally-renowned youth services organization, to provide a unique model that seamlessly integrates a rigorous academic curriculum and youth development services all under one roof. The school serves as a national model for addressing the needs of all students, especially those in need of additional support.

Responsibilities:
- Teach 5 Earth Science classes and/or the equivalent responsibilities; teach where needed regardless of certification or training
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of students
- Attend all scheduled prep time with co-teachers/team members and all scheduled cohort, content and faculty meetings
- Update grade book weekly
- Maintain clean and clutter free room spaces for all students’ and teachers’ use
- Develop NY State and Common Core Standards-based units and lessons
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students (especially those with ELL and IEP designations)
- Ensure students achieve goals set forth in BSA’s Accountability Plan
- Prepare students for all required assessments (Regents, NWEA, PSAT, SAT)
- Participate in all required School professional development
- Communicate regularly with caregivers (in person or via phone/text/email)
- Maintain a welcoming and safe classroom environment
- Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management
- Actively pursue certification and/or professional development
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Demonstrated expertise in the subject area as shown by significant undergraduate or graduate coursework in the content area or teaching certification
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate assessments
- Flexibility and resilience in intense work situations
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students, including those with special needs and English Language Learners
- Effective work ethic as a team member
- Dual-certification and/or experience with Special Education highly preferred
