Supervisor:  Arts Supervisor

At The Door, youth can access health care and education, mental health counseling and crisis assistance, legal assistance, college preparation services, career development, housing supports, arts, sports and recreational activities, and nutritious meals – all for free and under one roof. Position Description: 

The Door’s current creative/performing arts program offers Fine Arts (drawing, painting and sculpture), photography, instrumental and vocal training and technique, recording and performance; Studio recording, Dj’ing and Mcing; Drama, Dance, and Graphic Design.  The position requires an individual with a comprehensive understanding of all of these art forms, an awareness of how the arts impact the lives of young people, an ability to connect our programs to the outside world via exhibits, performances and public appearances, and a vision of how to pull the disciplines together to create unified events. Additionally, this position will provide ongoing support in college readiness and professional development in the arts.


  • Recruit and manage volunteer artists
  • Assist in maintain task oversight of performing arts Teaching Artists
  • Increase accessibility to and exposure of the Arts Program
  • Recruit and retain young people in the arts programs
  • Conduct outreach in schools, community centers, and other venues
  • Ensure teaching artist follow prepared lesson plans and attain outcome-based objectives
  • Develop and maintain opportunities for career development reflecting all areas of the Creative and Performing Arts Program
  • Work with students individually and in small groups to increase awareness and preparation for college and professional opportunities through support with portfolio development, audition preparation, and resume writing
  • Expose young people and program to the “outside world” through field trips, public exhibits and performances
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external arts partners
  • Facilitate groups and activities
  • Coordinate quarterly creative and performing arts showcase; provide YP with opportunities to perform in external venues
  • Work with Door staff and programs to integrate the arts into outreach and external events
  • Ensure youth receive referrals to appropriate Door programs as well as external community resources
  • Maintain all agency reporting requirements
  • Report all program activities and changes directly to the supervisor
  • Participate in program, department, and agency-wide staff meetings
  • Attend professional development trainings and workshops
  • Participate in agency wide initiatives as required by supervisor
  • Complete any additional responsibilities and functions as assigned by supervisor


  • Excellent organizational and supervisory skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of youth arts programming
  • Ability to provide ongoing supervision and direction to teaching artists
  • BA in related field preferred, High School Diploma or GED required
  • Demonstrated experience in group facilitation
  • Knowledge of youth issues and/or familiarity working with youth population
  • Able to provide crisis management and crisis intervention
  • Commitment to professionalism and ability to maintain a very professional attitude as a staff representative of the Door
  • Understanding of adolescent development, assessment, counseling and/or crisis management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Ability to work effectively and creatively as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Bilingual, Spanish preferred

Hours: 35 hours a week

Salary: Commensurate with experience
