The goal of The Door’s Career and Education Services Department is to support young people in completing secondary education and successfully transitioning into post-secondary education and employment.  Programs within the Career and Education Services Department (CareerED) are designed to help both in-school and out-of-school youth to set and attain their educational and career goals.  CareerED services allow a young person to craft a personalized life plan defining the steps he/she will take to achieve those goals while developing the necessary skills for future life success and independence.  The cornerstone of the Door’s career and education services is the EPOCH program, which aims to prepare out-of-school and out-of-work young people for meaningful placements in college and/or employment through the provision of comprehensive education and career services, which develop potential for economic self-sufficiency.  The Supervisor of Train NYC will be responsible for the oversite of the work readiness, and placements components for the program.


  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to full-time program staff assigned to the Train NYC program
  • Provide direct supervision of the Job Placement Specialists and Career Advancement Coaches to ensure delivery of services on a day-to-day basis and goals, targets, and performance outcomes are met on a daily/weekly/monthly basis
  • Work with program staff to improve job performance through ongoing mentoring and coaching, and weekly staff supervisions and meetings
  • Coordinate and oversee implementation of Train NYC activities for work readiness, wrap around and job search workshops and ensure all aspects of the program runs smoothly
  • Provide oversite  of staff to ensure the successful development of workshops, internships , job leads, and employer partners
  • Work with staff to ensure placements and retention outcomes are met and tracked, according to contractual/funding expectations on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Collect and maintain all Train NYC  program documentation and case records pursuant to data management procedures and contractual obligations
  • Maintain Train NYC training calendars, activity schedules and marketing materials and disseminate information about programs and services to staff, young people and other interested parties
  • Set, communicate, and enforce clear standards for quality youth development programming
  • Recruit, hire, orient, and develop program staff
  • Prepare and evaluate yearly performance reviews of program staff
  • Participate in relevant departmental, agency, and external agency meetings, trainings, case conferences, workshops and outside events
  • Handle any appropriate responsibilities and functions as assigned by Assistant Directors and Director

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, Public Policy, or related field required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in youth development, workforce development, or education fields required
  • Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience
  • Previous experience with program development and government and performance-based contract management required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational/vocational, social service, and health/mental health programs for young adults
  • Strong assessment  and  supervisory skills
  • Ability to create and facilitate workshops and trainings
  • Ability to closely collaborate with colleagues and function as part of a team to promote successful outcomes for youth
  • Ability to model work readiness skills and appropriate workplace behavior at all times
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with youth people
  • Proficiency in Spanish, French, or Mandarin preferred

Work Schedule: Full time, Monday through Friday, 35 hours per week, occasional evening and weekend hours as needed
