The Door & Little Island Collaborate to Empower NYC Youth through the Arts
The Door will partner with Little Island, the new cultural destination at Pier 55 in Hudson River Park, on a variety of initiatives focused on activating youth voice, rebuilding community, and celebrating creativity.
The partnership kicked off with Teen Night on Friday, June 18, just a few days after Little Island opened to the public. Supporters, families, friends and community members gathered to witness the creative talents of New York City’s youth for The Door’s first in-person live performance since 2019.
Teen Night marked the beginning of Little Island’s Perform in the Park Series, a weekly showcase taking place every Friday throughout the summer and fall.
“We’re thrilled about the strong programmatic collaboration we’ve built over the past two years in advance of Little Island’s opening season,” said Bailey Huguley, Managing Director, Programming and Partnerships, The Door. “The Door is extremely excited about this opportunity to amplify the voices of New York City’s young people as we come together to promote civic engagement and global healing.”
The Door joins an impressive roster of artists, entertainers, and organizations developing creative projects as part of the Perform in the Park Series, which brings together various young artists, performers, and community members to create, connect, and explore in a beautiful setting, a sentiment shared by both organizations.
At Little Island, visitors will find performing artists channeling the spontaneity and immersive energy of New York and bringing that spirit to life in its dynamic stages and spaces, surrounded by nature, water, and city views all at once. Little Island hopes to celebrate and present art that is as distinctive as the park and as unique as our city, for all our community to enjoy. Artists work in a range of performing arts and entertainment disciplines, with an emphasis on presentations that ignite imagination and engage outdoor audiences.
