THE DOOR’S NEW BRONX YOUTH CENTER SPACE OPENS TO PROVIDE MORE HOLISTIC SUPPORT & MORE PATHS TO THRIVING FUTURES FOR BRONX YOUTH
Bronx, NY — In June 2023, The Door, whose mission is to empower young people to reach their potential by providing comprehensive youth development services to young people between ages 12 and 24, moved its Bronx Youth Center (BYC) to a newly renovated space on Third Avenue and 154th Street in the South Bronx. BYC is now housed in a newly designed and renovated 18,000-square-foot facility that spans four floors. The new space will catalyze improved access to the growing community need for BYC programs and services. In addition to continuing to offer employment and education programming, BYC will provide additional programs and services, including mental health supports, arts programming, legal assistance, culinary services, and more.
The Door’s expanded programming vision in the Bronx is being made possible through a transformative gift by philanthropists Lynne and Richard Pasculano, in support of the BYC and its new suite of service offerings. For many years, the Pasculanos have thoughtfully and meaningfully invested in vital non-profit institutions across New York City and beyond, and The Door is honored to be among the organizations they have chosen to partner with.
About the Bronx Youth Center, Its New Facility, and Expanded Programming
Since opening in the South Bronx in 2015, the BYC has served as a safety net and gateway to career advancement for young people living and working in one of New York City’s most under-resourced communities. Through the BYC, The Door provides critical career and education programming to over 600 young people per year—including targeted support for systems-involved youth, and young parents.
The new BYC location and increased space will enable The Door to provide additional programming that more closely replicates the full suite of offerings at its SoHo location. Under this more holistic approach, The Door will be better equipped to amplify its mission and implement its vision for better serving the Bronx youth community—by ensuring that more young people in the Bronx have access to all the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to overcome obstacles and succeed in adulthood.
