Manhattan Youth Center
Our SoHo building hosts a wide variety of The Door’s programming on five floors, plus a lower level, including various amenities, such as a dance studio, gym, cafeteria, a fully equipped health center, and a counseling center; Broome Street Academy (BSA), our charter high school, is located on the fourth floor.
The Exterior
The Door moved to its present location in 1989, where it occupies five floors filled with comprehensive services. Around The Door’s 20th anniversary, programming expanded to include on-site legal services and advanced education programs such as GED courses and college counseling.
First Floor
On the first floor of our Manhattan Youth Center, you'll find our Membership, Supportive Housing, and Runaway & Homeless Youth Departments, as well as our food pantry. The first floor also houses Center Space, the primary thoroughfare where our youth member congregate to socialize or take part in recreational activities.
Lower Level (Health Center)
The lower level of our SoHo space is home to our Adolescent Health Center, which offers an on-site lab, contraception, counseling, dental services, dermatology, eye care, insurance help, sexual and reproductive care, physicals, prescriptions for medications, PrEP and PEP, primary-care services, and vaccines.
Lower Level (Gym)
The lower level of our Manhattan Youth Center also houses a full gymnasium, which Door youth members can make use of for team sports and other physical wellness activities. It's also the home space for the championship athletics teams at Broome Street Academy, our public charter high school.
Second Floor
All of our arts studios, including our music recording studio, a dance studio, and studios for fashion, painting, ceramics, and more, are located on the second floor. This level of the building also houses Culinary Department, including out our kitchen and community cafeteria, as well as our Career and Education programs.
Third Floor
The third floor of our SoHo Youth Center is where our Legal Services Center and Counseling Center are located.
Fourth Floor
The fourth level of 555 Broome Street is home to Broome Street Academy (BSA), our public charter high school.
Fifth Floor
The fifth floor of our Manhattan Space houses the science labs and classrooms for Broome Street Academy, our public charter high school. It's also where The Door's administrative department offices. including the CEO's office, Operations, Human Resources, Development, Communications & Marketing, Finance, and IT, are located.
