Recreation

A safe space to meet, learn and share with each other

Along with health, legal, education, counseling, and career services, The Door offers recreational, artistic, fitness, and performance opportunities on a daily basis.

The “heart” of Door activity is Center Space, the first floor open area designed for performances, meetings, games, workshops, and other activities.

Fitness

The Door’s fitness room includes weight machines and exercise space. Keep an eye out for workout and yoga classesnutrition workshops, and other activities to help you stay healthy!

In addition, The Door has a gym in the basement where young people gather to play basketball and other games on a regular basis.

Arts & LGBTQ Programming

The Door has a diverse and exciting range of arts programming, including musicvisual artsdance, and theater and is a safe space for LGBTQ youth, and offers a range of programming, including discussion groups, arts-based activities, field trips, and Kiki Functions. Kiki Functions provide a safe space to learn to vogue and walk a runway.

Our open classes and ongoing workshops are open to young people of all skill levels. Best of all, everything takes place in a safe and supportive environment. Click here to learn about The Door’s arts programming.

In addition to our year-round arts programming, numerous performance opportunities are available, including open mic nights, spoken word events, and program showcases. We’re always looking for young people to share their talents.

In addition to specific program areas, every afternoon you’ll find activities at The Door that offer the opportunity to hang out and have fun with other young people. Daily activities include games, arts and crafts, discussion groups, and much more.
