About The Door
Proceeds from Taste of Community will provide critical funding for The Door’s comprehensive youth development programs. Founded in 1972, The Door serves as a vital resource for New York City’s youth as they navigate the transition to adulthood. The Door provides young people, ages 12–24, with access to a safe, affirming, and welcoming space, alongside meaningful connections to supportive adult role models and peers. At The Door, youth have access to our suite of free, co-located services, including primary, reproductive, and behavioral health care; legal services; career and education programs; runaway and homeless youth services; supportive housing; sports and recreation; arts programming; and daily nutrition meals. A key part of our model is our Culinary Arts Training—an in-demand workforce development program through which we provide hands-on instruction, credentialing, and job placement in the culinary industry. You can learn more by visiting the "About the Door" page of this site, and by perusing our program areas listed under "What We Offer."
